Renae Griggs Biography

Renae Griggs, COPLINE Secretary -

Renae Griggs is a former Major Crimes Detective who can attest to the overwhelming psychological demands of a police career and the consequences of the cumulative effects. After 13 years in law enforcement, she turned in her badge in exchange for a student ID card. Renae was determined to find answers to the mystery of a career that had left her a shell of a person she had been, and impacted he so radically that she nearly took her own life. Believing she had been given a second chance, with her hope and purpose renewed, Renae began a relentless pursuit toward an advanced education. She was motivated by a commitment to return to her first love with the expertise to provoke a paradigm shift in policing so an officer's mental health and emotional well being would be of paramount importance to the agency by which he or she is employed. In 2000, she graduated with honors with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Nova Southern University and two years later she completed her Masters Degree in Forensic Psychology, focusing on police psychology and police family dynamics from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In August 2002, Renae founded National Police Family Violence Prevention Project, Inc., a not-for-profit organization devoted to developing and implementing proactive preventative strategies in police departments nationwide with the goal of reducing the number of domestic violence incidents and suicides in police families. The NPFVP Project is working with other organizations across the country to address the root issues in policing that results in the senseless loss of life, the tragic destruction of families, and the regrettable early termination of successful careers. Renae believes COPLINE is critical to that end. It would have made a tremendous difference for her if she would have had such a lifeline during her own personal and professional crisis. It is an honor for her to serve on the Board of COPLINE and a privilege to be part of such and important aspect of this work overall.
